From David's Desk...
David Baucum
In February, CTSI celebrated its 24th anniversary of service to West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Some of you have been with us from the beginning and others of you are new clients. To each of you, I say a heartfelt "thank you." We would not be where we are today without your referrals and testimonials. Our success in this ever-changing world of technology is a testament to you, our loyal clients. It is a pleasure to work with each of you, and I look forward to continuing a mutually beneficial business relationship.
In fact, this newsletter has been specially redesigned for you.  As part of our effort to continue to provide the best customer support and value, we worked to create a monthly update that not only provides timely, helpful information, but also helps you to continue to get to know the CTSI family.  We hope you find the result to be as enjoyable as we do.
On another note, with the recent outbreak of the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu), the need for work-from-home capability became readily apparent to me. With remote access technology, a workstation or notebook computer can be set up with the capability of logging in to an office network, whether from your home or from across the country.  I have been using this technology for years, and perhaps began to take it for granted, but I realized it could be quite handy in the event of a major epidemic. Thankfully, this strain of flu hasn't been as big of an issue as the experts predicted; however, it's always good to be prepared. If this is something that interests you,  please call us or visit our website for more information.  We'd be happy to help.

      Until next time,

CTSI Unveils New Website
ctsinet.com Snapshot       We are pleased to announce our newly remodeled and easier-to-use web site. While the address is still the same (www.ctsinet.com), there have been many improvements made. In today's global economy and technology-centric society, having a well-rounded internet presence is more important than ever before.  The new site will make it simpler for first-time visitors to find the information they're seeking, as well as provide easy, intuitive access for our existing clients.
New features to the site's pages include updates to the Support Services and Business Solutions information, as well as the comprehensive Web and Internet Solutions which CTSI can provide. A cornerstone of the refurbished web site is CTSI's Managed Services heading. This business offering is explained in detail and represents the future of business technology. We are excited about this service and the many opportunities it represents for our clients. In addition, every page within the web site features an easy-to-use navigational tool on the right side of the page that will help direct you to any and all of our differing informational pages.
Our goal in presenting this site upgrade is to expand our service to both existing clients and prospective clients. We hope you find the new site simple and straightforward (if not, let us know!) This website will be updated much more frequently, as new technology and accompanying services warrant. Also, a breaking news section with pertinent information about CTSI and the information technology industry is a feature you will want to visit often.  We welcome your feedback and have provided several ways for you to contact us from within the site.
Stay tuned in the coming months for even more exciting and valuable features!

Introduction to Managed Services
CTSI Is Your Trusted Technology Partner       Managed Services is a term used to describe a rapidly-growing, proactive approach to business computing services. Typically, Managed Services consists of an agreement between a business and an information technology provider that allows the IT provider to serve as the business' s IT department. The great thing about Managed Services is its scalability. Essentially, managed services can be tailored to fit any size business.
The monitoring of devices is the cornerstone of Managed Services. This applies not only to business-critical servers and network devices, but printers, desktops, and notebooks as well. By taking a proactive approach--rather than the traditional break/fix model--the IT provider can spot a potential problem early, and many times the issue can be rectified before business operations are impacted. This monitoring also allows the IT provider to see indications of pending capacity or system resource problems before they become issues, giving the business an opportunity to address the situation in a carefully planned manner, rather than in an emergency mode.
In addition to monitoring devices, the IT provider also manages the installation of key software updates and patches for the business. Virus protection, Microsoft productivity software, operating system, and many other updates are handled by the IT provider, giving the business owner peace of mind by taking these tasks off the owner's plate.
Another key feature of Managed Services is a preventive maintenance program.  The IT provider provides regular cleaning and validation of a myriad of key hardware components, minimizing the business's downtime and maximizing the bottom line-productivity.
Managed Services can be summed up in one word: value. If your business is tired of dealing with the day-to-day headaches that come with today's technology, Managed Services is something to consider. Between monitoring devices and patching systems, monthly preventive maintenance, and proactive optimization tasks, Managed Services truly has the capability to revolutionize the future of your business and the value you receive from your IT investment.

Meet Keith WeaverKeith Weaver

Keith joined CTSI this past April.  We decided to ask him a few questions to help everyone get to know him better:

What is your title, and what do you do at CTSI?
  • My title is ROC (Remote Operations Center) Specialist.  It is a new position for the company.

Tell us about your family, and pets (if you have any)
  • I have been married to my lovely wife for almost 20 years (May 27th) and we have two great boys.  Preston is a freshman this year and Nolan is a sixth grader at LCS.  We have all been in Lubbock for almost a year now.  We currently have one dog and will be getting another one in June.
What do you do in your free time? (hobbies, places you like to visit)
  • In what free time I have, I enjoy spending it with my family, participating in church & school activities with our kids, reading and playing around on our computers (Home & Family IT Support).
Tell us one thing that co-workers and clients don't know about you.
  • I got to go to Super Bowl XII in New Orleans in 1978.  My aunt is a big Cowboys fan and has been to all but one of their Super Bowls.

Helen's Recipe of the Month

Helen Burns, CTSI's Purchasing Manager, has been with the company for eight and a half years.  In addition to her purchasing duties, Helen serves as our unofficial party coordinator. Helen (with help from our administrative assistant, Nancy Clark) makes sure we celebrate every staff member's birthday as well as various holidays by providing a wide range of delectable treats. Without further ado, from Helen's kitchen to you, here's a recipe-enjoy!

Strawberry Tres Leches Cake

1  ½ C. flour
1  tsp baking powder
½  C butter, softened
1  C granulatedsugar
5  eggs
1  tsp vanilla extract
1  can sweetened condensed milk
1  5 oz can evaporated milk
1 ½ cups fresh whole strawberries, stems and tops removed
2/3  cup powdered sugar
1  8 oz. carton whipped topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour and baking powder together and set aside. Puree the strawberries and combine with the powdered sugar. Cream the butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add the flour mixture to the batter, a little at a time, and add half the strawberry puree, mixing all together until well blended. Pour batter into sprayed 9 X12 pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and poke holes all over the top of the cake & set aside.

Combine the sweetened condensed milk with the evaporated milk, and blend well. Pour this mixture all over the top of thewarm cake and allow to soak in completely. Refrigerate until chilled. Blend the remaining strawberry puree with the whipped topping and spread over the cake and keep refrigerated. Cake is better if baked the day before serving, allowing the flavors to blend.
